This sauce is going to be on our 4th of July menu tomorrow.
Grilled chicken with BBQ sauce is an absolute must on the 4th of July 😉
I NEVER use bottled BBQ sauce. Just for starters, have you ever looked at the first few ingredients in your basic store-bought BBQ sauce? One of the first ingredients is usually tomato concentrate. This is just tomato paste and water. Nothing too extraordinary. But…the second ingredient is almost always high-fructose corn syrup. This sweetener is even worse than just plain sugar. It’s just something that you should avoid at all costs. Extremely bad for your health. Usually the rest of the ingredients include things like molasses, seasonings, and artificial flavorings and colorings.
Let’s face it. Store-bought BBQ sauce is just no good. AND it’s nowhere NEAR as amazing as homemade.
Lucky for you, I have a truly authentic BBQ sauce that is very similar in taste to it’s unhealthy cousin.
It took a bit of experimenting to get the perfect BBQ flavor in my sauce. I tested many different methods of ingredients and preparation. After much failure and disappointment, I finally arrived at the perfect flavor of the sauce that ALSO proved to be incredibly easy as well!
The main ingredients in the sauce is tomato sauce, molasses, and red wine vinegar. These three key ingredients make the sauce what it truly is. The tomato sauce provides the base. The molasses gives it a slightly sweet taste. And the red wine vinegar doles out a tangy flavor. The rest of the ingredients are just spices and seasonings to add an extra boost of flavor.
See? How much simpler can you get?
I love this sauce. It’s sweet, spicy, and tangy all at the same time, but not overpowering. It’s also very kid-friendly–My siblings LOVE it.
It tastes amazing on grilled chicken, beef ribs, or meatballs. It also makes a pretty amazing dipping sauce for french fries and chicken nuggets.
Yum. I’m already looking forward to enjoying a chicken leg slathered with this amazing stuff, tomorrow. The best part? It’s low-fat AND healthy! No guilt here!
Have a great 4th!
