Better-Than-Storebought Hot Fudge Sauce

You'll never go back to the storebought hot fudge sauce after one taste of this super-smooth and chocolate-y ice cream sauce! You may just want to grab a spoon.

  • 1 cup milk divided
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract


  • Whisk 2/3 cup milk, syrup, sugar, cocoa, and salt together in a medium saucepan until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in chopped chocolate, butter, and vanilla until chocolate is melted and smooth. Whisk in remaining 1/3 cup milk until sauce is smooth and pourable.
  • Allow sauce to cool slightly before using.


Store sauce in refrigerator up to 1 week.
To bring sauce back to liquid consistency, slowly heat over medium heat until sauce is pourable.
