Start your morning off on the right foot with a bowl of this hot and creamy caramelized apple oatmeal. Perfect use for all those fall apples!

Fall breakfast is served! Because I don’t know about you, but a cold fall morning calls for something as warm and cozy as apples and oatmeal.
This bowl just gets the job done. We’ve got a pretty simple brown sugar oatmeal base and a whole mess of caramelized apples crowning this breakfast beauty.

Basically like eating a caramel apple for breakfast and folks, that’s what we call a slam dunk in breakfast land.
This Oatmeal features…
- Soft and creamy brown sugar oatmeal
- Sweet and spiced caramelized apples
- A quick 15 minute recipe with only a handful of ingredients

Making the Oatmeal
(scroll down to the bottom of the post for the full recipe)
Ingredients You Will Need
- Unsalted butter
- Apples
- Brown sugar
- Spices
- 2% or skim milk
- Old-fashioned rolled oats
- Nuts for topping
Choosing Your Apples
This oatmeal works great with a variety of apples, but we typically go for a sweet, crisp apple such as honeycrisp, gala, Cortland, or Braeburn. Feel free to experiment with different kinds!

Tips for Perfect Oatmeal
- Caramelize apples over medium heat – it should take around 8-10 minutes over medium heat to properly caramelize the apples.
- Use half water and half milk for oatmeal – using half milk will give the oats a rich and creamy flavor.
- Cook oatmeal over low heat – low and slow is the best way to go for the creamiest texture. Stir oatmeal often to prevent burning on the bottom.
Recipe Variations
Try these ideas for a different twist on this oatmeal.
- Use another fruit – try pears or sliced banana in place of the apples.
- Try another sweetener – try sweetening the oatmeal with maple syrup or honey.
- Add nuts – I like to top my oatmeal with roasted cashews but toasted pecans or walnuts would also be delicious.

Just a pure bowl of fall goodness here! The creamy oatmeal pairs like a dream with all those spiced caramelly apples piled on top.
I can tell you firsthand that this oatmeal will DEFINITELY start your day off on the right note!
