Chase away the winter chill with this eggnog hot chocolate that features winter spices, rich eggnog, and sweet hot chocolate all in one drink! Enjoy this easy holiday sipper hot or cold with lots of whipped cream on top.

Winter called and said you need a cool new beverage! Obviously the only real solution here is to combine hot chocolate and eggnog all in one completely over-the-top drink.
The end result? An impossibly smooth and silky texture, rich melted chocolate, and just a hint of eggnog flavor from plenty of grated nutmeg.
I mean, obviously we’re drinking this all winter long and definitely leaving a glass out for Santa on Christmas Eve.

My favorite part about this hot chocolate is that you can serve it both hot and cold! You can taste all the warm spices at their fullest when it’s hot but when it’s cold it settles into the most silky eggnog-like texture that’s just incredible.
Either way you drink it, the whipped cream on top is of course, nonnegotiable!
This Hot Chocolate features…
- A silky eggnog texture
- Rich chocolate and lots of winter spices
- Ready in minutes and great served warm or chilled

Making the Hot Chocolate
(scroll down to the bottom of the post for the full recipe)
Ingredients You Will Need
- Egg yolks
- 2% or skim milk
- Heavy whipping cream
- Brown sugar
- Molasses
- Spices
- Salt
- Bittersweet chocolate
- Vanilla extract
- Whipped cream

Tips for Perfect Hot Chocolate
- Heat milk, cream, and sugar – allow these ingredients to heat just until steaming, do not let it boil otherwise the mixture may break.
- Temper egg yolks – slowly whisk a small amount of hot milk mixture into egg yolks to temper them and prevent scrambling before adding all back to saucepan to cook until thickened.
- Whisk chocolate in offheat – the residual heat from the liquid will melt the chocolate.
- Strain hot chocolate – use a fine-mesh sieve to strain the liquid to get rid of any egg lumps.
Recipe Variations
Try these ideas for a different twist on this drink.
- Use another kind of chocolate – replace the bittersweet chocolate with dark chocolate or semisweet.
- Try different spices – try a pinch of allspice, cloves, or cardamom.
- Add coffee – add a shot of espresso to hot chocolate.
- Make it alcoholic – add 1-2 oz dark rum, coffee liqueur, whiskey, or cognac to the hot chocolate.
Serving Suggestions
Like I previously mentioned, this drink is amazing served both warm or cold! If you choose to serve hot chocolate cold, refrigerate mixture 2 hours before shaking well and serving.
Whatever temperature you decide to serve it at, make sure you top servings with whipped cream and lots of grated nutmeg on top.

No lie, this is about to become your new go-to Christmas drink! You really can taste the best of both eggnog and hot chocolate worlds in every sip and I just think that’s something everyone should get to experience.
