Lightly spiced and loaded with cozy fall apple flavors, this easy big batch-style stovetop applesauce cooks in minutes on the stove and is the perfect way to use up all those fall apples!
Because EVERYONE needs at least one classic applesauce recipe in their fall recipe arsenal!
And in case you’re wondering…yes, apple production is still in full swing over here but the situation is starting to get kind of dire. So many apples still yet to use and not enough time to make ALL the apple things.
I’m gettin’ there though. You might notice that apples have been plentiful around the blog lately. 😉
So a few weekends ago I decided I needed to get serious about using up my ridiculously-huge amount of apples and I totally came upon the perfect solution.
It starts with apples and ends with SAUCE. ♥
When fall gives you tons of apples…make multiple batches of big-batch stovetop applesauce!
And I totally have. So much sauuuuuuuce!
And I mean the plain and simple kind of sauce. No frills and super-basic just like a good ‘ol classic stovetop applesauce should be.
This applesauce is lightly flavored with a few different kinds of spices, as well as a little lemon juice, but for the most part the apple flavor just shines through. As applesauce SHOULD be. 😀
You can use really whatever kind of apples you wish in this applesauce. I’ve tested this recipe with Honey Crisps, Cortlands, and Ambrosias, so just use whatever kind you have on hand! Remember, this is a big-batch applesauce, so you’re going to need about 5 lbs of whatever kind you choose.
Also a little trick I use to get even more apple flavor: Cook your apples in apple cider for the liquid!—it adds SO much more deep apple flavor.
Even though this recipe makes a nice-sized amount of applesauce, I’m totally not lying when I say that it’s gonna vanish…FAST!
For that reason, I like to make double-batches of this applesauce just for the intent purpose of sticking half of it in the freezer for later.
I’m absolutely in apple-power-cook mode right now. 😀
Gosh, I love this applesauce. It’s kind of perfect. ♥
Moving on to today’s video!
Video creds go to a certain little bro of mine named Michael whom I recently hired as my video cameraman. We’re still working out a few kinks, but thus far what do you guys think?
We’re currently working on a few more videos that I seriously cannot wait to share with y’all! Find us on Youtube!
??? Now let’s all eat some applesauce!! ???
Big-Batch Stovetop Applesauce (and a video!)
- 5 lbs apples peeled, cored, and sliced (10-12 medium apples)
- 1-1/2 cups apple cider
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
- Juice from 1/2 lemon
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring often until apples are very tender and beginning to break down, about 15 minutes.
Transfer apples and any liquid still in the pan into a high-speed blender. Puree on high speed several seconds or until applesauce is completely smooth. Enjoy applesauce warm or refrigerate until cold.
Store applesauce in refrigerator up to 1 week. Applesauce also freezes well up to 3 months.
