Either way, I brought it. Almost embarrassed to even call this apple brown betty a recipe though because it is seriously just about the most freaking easy thing I’ve ever made.
It doesn’t even make sense that something this simple + weird should be soooooo good, but it just is. For those of you unaware, an apple brown betty consists of the following >>>
- A sweet, soft apple filling that’s like pure heaven.
- A crisp, buttery spiced saltine topping. Sounds weird, but TRUST ME!! It just works.
And cause I most definitely can’t leave well enough alone, today we’re going a bit off the apple brown betty grid. This will involve only magical things like cranberries hanging out in the apple filling because I <3 ’em a lot.
Also, chai whipped cream. Repeat it sloooooow with me, eat it as fast as humanly possible.
I seriously can’t think of heaven much better than piles of it on top of this warm, cozy as heck apple brown betty. Except for like a little personal bowl of it alongside your regular bowl of dis goodness. >>

Cranberry Apple Brown Betty with Chai Whipped Cream

Ingredients
Apple Cranberry Brown Betty
- 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (about 4 apples)
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1 cup crushed saltine crackers
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chai Whipped Cream
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon *chai spice
Instructions
Apple Cranberry Brown Betty
- Preheat oven to 350F. In a medium bowl, toss apples, cranberries, lemon juice, and sugar together. Spread into the bottom of a 9-in cast iron skillet or 9x13 baking pan. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, toss crushed saltine crackers with melted butter with a fork until crumbly. Add spices and vanilla. Sprinkle topping evenly over apple cranberry filling. Bake brown betty at 350F 30-35 minutes or until topping is golden filling is bubbly.
Chai Whipped Cream
- Place cream in a medium bowl and beat on high speed with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Add powdered sugar and chai spice and continue beating until stiff peaks form. Serve apple cranberry brown betty warm with chai whipped cream and enjoy!
