How To Fold Wontons
Folding these wontons is fairly simple and you’ll be a pro at it after a few practice ones! Follow the photo tutorial below for an easy step-by-step guide to folding wontons.
- Place 1 rounded teaspoon meat filling in the center of wonton wrapper.
- Dab the edges of wonton wrapper in water and fold in half to create a triangle. Pinch the edges firmly with additional dabs of water as needed to seal.
- Fold the tip of the triangle in.
- Take the two corners and snugly wrap around the tip, using additional dabs of water as needed to firmly seal in place.
Tips for Perfect Chicken Wontons
- Use fresh lime in sauce – freshly-squeezed lime juice and zest adds an unmatchable flavor to the sauce.
- Dab edges of wonton wrappers with water – this will help the wrappers seal around the filling.
- Boil wontons 3-4 minutes – once the wontons float to the top of the water, temp one with a kitchen thermometer. It should be at least 165F and ready to be pulled from the water.
- Top wontons with sauce, green onions, and sesame seeds – place the wontons in a serving bowl, drizzle with sauce, and top with sliced green onions and lots of sesame seeds. This gives the wontons a pretty presentation and adds tons of flavor!
Recipe Variations
Try these ideas for a different twist on these wontons.
- Use ground turkey, beef, pork, or Italian sausage – feel free to try a different meat in place of the chicken.
- Adjust heat level – start with 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes for mild wontons. For non-spicy wontons, omit the chili flakes all together.
- Serve wontons with veggies and rice – for a full meal, try serving your favorite steamed/roasted veggie and rice on the side.
Storing and Freezing Wontons
These wontons store well in refrigerator up to 6 days. To reheat for serving, microwave wontons 2-3 minutes then reheat sauce 1-2 minutes and drizzle over wontons.
To freeze wontons, allow to cool completely then store in a freezer-safe container and freeze up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen in microwave 3-4 minutes until wontons register 165F. Top with warm sauce for serving.
These wontons are like an actual little flavor bomb! The spicy chicken filling gets so tender and juicy while it cooks and then dousing the wontons in that incredible chili lime sauce adds the most incredible pop of spicy, tangy flavors.
The app no one will be able to stop eating, I can promise you that!
