These thick and fluffy chocolate banana pancakes are the ultimate breakfast indulgence! Loaded with a double whammy of chocolate and lots of banana flavor.

Breakfast is looking pretty dang indulgent today! Only the most chocolate-packed stacks of heaven for you guys.
Excuse me, TWO kinds of chocolate plus banana all in one stack. These details matter especially if you’re dedicating a weekend breakfast slot to these gems.
Which I highly recommend you do so immediately.

There’s pretty much nothing to these pancakes, folks! We’re going to be using my trusty buttermilk pancake base and from there’s it’s just a little double chocolate + banana action to keep things lively.
Your next weekend pancake breakfast calls!
These Pancakes Feature…
- A soft and fluffy texture
- Sweet mashed banana
- Lots of chocolate flavor from both cocoa powder and gooey chocolate chips

Making the Pancakes
(scroll down to the bottom of the post for the full recipe)
Ingredients You Will Need
- Bananas
- Unsalted butter
- Brown sugar
- Egg
- Vanilla extract
- Buttermilk
- All-purpose flour
- Cocoa powder
- Baking powder
- Baking soda
- Kosher salt
- Semisweet chocolate chips

Tips for Perfect Chocolate Banana Pancakes
- Use ripe bananas – ideally, you want ripe bananas that are bright yellow and spotted all over.
- Spoon and level flour – I use the spoon-and-level technique for measuring flour as this will prevent over-measuring. Use a spoon to scoop flour into the measuring cup, then level with the back of a knife.
- Allow melted butter to cool – wait for the butter to cool before mixing with the other ingredients to prevent curdling.
- Gently fold batter – use a light hand when mixing batter to prevent overmixing.
- Use real buttermilk – this gives the pancakes a rich and tangy flavor.
Recipe Variations
Try these ideas for a different twist on these pancakes.
- Choose a different chocolate – dark, milk, or white chocolate will all work great here. You can also use a chocolate bar cut up into chunks.
- Add nuts – fold 1/2 cup toasted walnuts or pecans into batter.
- Add a fruit – try folding 1/2 cup diced strawberries or raspberries into the batter.

It’s the gooey chocolate + rich banana flavor in each and every bite of these fluffy pancakes that really does it for me. You’ll soon see why one pancake quickly turns into three here!
