The ultimate lazy weekend breakfast! This bananas foster-style dutch baby is filled with tons of caramelized bananas and you won’t believe how easy it is to throw together!
Ummm. Hey. It’s Friday and was that insane dutch baby you see up there any indication of that?
Dang, busted. Also, there’s a 95% chance that all meals this weekend are going to consist of this bananas foster dutch baby.
^^^ Can you honestly blame me? No. Because this is what weekend heaven looks like.
And we all need in on some heaven at SOME point during our weekend. Or all of it.
So here goes, guys. We’re gonna follow the standard dutch baby procedure which includes the following…
- Heat the pan with the butter. This extra boost of heat helps the dutch baby rise quickly and form a golden exterior.
- Batter! Dutch baby batter reminds me of like a crepe batter. It’s thin and mixes up SUPER fast in one bowl.
- Dump it all in your heated skillet. Bake it until it’s puffed up and a DEEP golden brown. It’ll deflate while it cools but that’s okay. We’ve got good things we’re gonna fill ‘er with.
Caramelized bananas definitely fall under the category of very.good.things.
Seriously. Where have these been my entire life and why are they not filling every corner of my life?
And yes, I would highly recommend and strongly encourage eating this dutch baby straight from the skillet. With yo fork. Or hands. I’m not picky.

Ingredients
Dutch Baby:
- 1/4 cup melted butter divided
- 1/2 cup warm milk 110F
- 2 large eggs room temperature
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Banana Topping:
- 2 ripe but slightly-firm bananas
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Powdered sugar for topping
Instructions
- Make the dutch baby: Preheat oven to 375F. Place 2 tablespoons butter in a 9-in cast iron skillet and place skillet in oven to heat butter.
- In a medium bowl, whisk remaining 2 tablespoons melted butter, milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Whisk in flour and salt until a smooth batter forms. Remove skillet from oven and carefully pour batter into the bottom. Place skillet back in oven and bake dutch baby at 375F 20-25 minutes or until puffed up and golden brown.
- While dutch baby bakes, make the banana topping: In a medium skillet, saute bananas in butter, gradually adding sugar, cinnamon, cream, and salt. Stir occasionally 4-5 minutes until bananas are golden and sauce is thickened.
- Fill baked dutch baby with banana topping and dust with powdered sugar. Slice into wedges and enjoy!
