Choosing Your Ravioli
This recipe works great with a variety of ravioli types. You can use frozen or fresh-refrigerated and feel free to get creative with the types of fillings!
Tips for Perfect Toasted Ravioli
- Use plain breadcrumbs – it’s important you stick to this type of breadcrumbs and don’t use panko in this recipe. It won’t adhere to the ravioli properly.
- Freeze ravioli before breading – this helps the breading stick to the ravioli better.
- Preheat air fryer – you want the air fryer nice and hot when you go to add the ravioli. Preheat for about 3 minutes.
- Use nonstick cooking spray in basket and on ravioli – since we’re relying on convection to make the ravioli crispy, this added little bit of fat is essential for browning and getting a nice crisp on the outside.
- Cook ravioli in batches – giving the ravioli ample space in the air fryer is crucial for getting them to cook up crispy. If you overcrowd the basket, the ravioli will steam and not brown properly.
- Flip ravioli halfway through cooking – this helps both sides crisp up evenly.
- Don’t leave ravioli unattended – this ravioli cooks up FAST and it’s easy to accidentally overcook them if you leave them unattended.
Recipe Variations
Try these ideas for a different twist on this ravioli!
- Use pre-seasoned breadcrumbs – skip the seasonings in the recipe and use pre-seasoned Italian breadcrumbs instead.
- Try ravioli with different fillings – we love doing a trio of three-cheese, spinach, and beef-filled raviolis for some variety.
Oven and Stovetop Instructions
Don’t have an air fryer? You can still make this recipe on either the stovetop or in the oven.
Oven: place ravioli in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined sheet pan and spray well with pan spray. Bake ravioli at 400F 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking until ravioli is golden brown and crispy.
Stovetop: heat 1-2 tablespoons unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Working in batches, add ravioli and pan fry, turning once until ravioli is golden brown and crispy.
You will truly never go back to the frozen toasted ravioli ever again after trying these little pockets of heaven! They’re perfectly coated in the crispy breadcrumbs and absolute heaven dipped in all that warm marinara.
No one will ever guess how easy they were to pull off either and we call that an app win around here.
