- Chickpeas
- All-purpose flour
- Egg
- Cumin

- Vegetable oil
Choosing Your Chickpeas
This recipe works well with both canned or freshly-cooked chickpeas. You will need 1 (15 oz) can or about 2 cups chickpeas.
If using canned, make sure to drain and rinse chickpeas well. If you are cooking the chickpeas yourself, make sure they are fully cooled before proceeding with recipe.
Tips for Perfect Fritters
- Use fresh lemon and dill – this adds an unmatchable fresh flavor to the sauce.
- Mash chickpeas – use a fork or a potato masher to finely mash the chickpeas before adding the rest of the fritter ingredients.
- Divide dough into 5 portions – the dough will be a little sticky so make sure you flour or oil your hands before forming into patties.
- Drain fritters on paper towels – this will remove any excess grease from pan frying.
Recipe Variations
Try these ideas for a different twist on this recipe.
- Add cheese – try adding feta, Parmesan, or asiago.
- Use another bean – white, pinto, or black beans will all work great in place of the chickpeas.
- Add another fresh herb – try minced green onion, parsley, or thyme in place of the dill.
Storing and Reheating Fritters
The fritters and dipping sauce store well in refrigerator up to 6 days. For best results, store sauce and fritters separately.
To reheat fritters, reheat in a 400F oven for 8-10 minutes or in a single layer in air fryer at 400F 3-5 minutes.
The fresh lemon and dill are really key flavors here and blend so well with the hearty chickpeas! The cooling Greek yogurt sauce is the most perfect dip pairing and yes, you probably will go overboard on dipping these bad boys.
