Another Friday, another round of Kitchen How-To’s!
And another crazy weekend on the horizon. My grad party is this Sunday! What the heeeeeeck?!!
My to-do list, guys. It’s more-or-less 500 miles long.
You see, I’m the one who’s the main boss in the food department. Am I insane to take this on when it’s actually supposed to be MY party? Probably, but there’s no way I would leave all that work for my poor mother to handle by herself.
Needless to say, the least of my worries is gonna be about how my hair and makeup look at the party. Right now I am legitly up to my elbows in cookie dough and there may be melted chocolate in my hair as well.
P.S. The dessert table is solely MY responsibility. I decided to go finger food-style and NOT have a big sheet cake. So this entails 5 dozen mini chocolate cupcakes, 6 dozen chocolate chip cookies, AND (I’m super-excited about this one) chocolate fondue with fruit skewers.
Clearly, we are ALL about the chocolate around here. Yup, yup.
We’re also going to set up a legit COFFEE station on the beverage table which leads me back to the topic for today’s post…→
COFFEE. I’m livin’ on it at the moment. It helps with those pre-grad party stress freak-outs, ya know?
I’m going to tell you something that may shock you: My family does not own a coffee maker. My mom and I are the only regular coffee drinkers in the house and we make ALL our coffee with our handy-dandy french press.
Why? Because a french-press makes the best dang coffee EVER! Honest! It deals out super-rich, luscious and STRONG coffee every time. The way coffee should be.
Oh, and it’s also known as the small batch-lover’s DREAM coffee tool! It makes enough for 2 cups of glorious coffee. Enough to satisfy one Sarah.
Alright, let’s get into the step-by-step business. Here’s how you do it!
First off, let’s get that water a’boiling. Most french presses I’ve used are the 8-cups ones and for this certain size you’ll need 4-5 cups water to make one batch. (this is where I got mine!)
Now the beans. I highly recommend you use french-roasted coffee beans. For an even deeper coffee flavor, I suggest you grind them yourself.
It’ll be up to you on how much coffee you want to use. My mom and I obviously prefer our coffee STRONG, so we use 4-5 scoops of ground coffee per batch. This will equal about 1/3 cup. Feel free to just go by your preference on how strong you want your coffee.
Place the grounds in the bottom of the french press and then carefully pour the boiling water over them, filling the pot about 3/4 full.
Let that sit for exactly 4 minutes. What we’re doing right now is allowing the grounds to “bloom” with the boiling water. It’s developing all that fantastic flavor!
Now grab the top to the french press and very gently press the plunger down into the pot until you reach the bottom. The coffee grounds will stay separated at the bottom and all the glorious coffee stays on top. Magic!!
Pour that luscious liquid gold straight into your prettiest cup.
And make it even prettier by splashing some cream into the party. ♥

How To Make French Press Coffee
Ingredients
- Finely ground coffee 4-5 scoops or 1/3 cup depending on how strong you like your coffee
- Boiling water 3-4 cups
- Half-and-half cream and sweetener for serving agave coffee syrup, coconut sugar, honey, ect
Instructions
- Place ground coffee in a french press pot. Pour boiling water over grounds, filling the french press 3/4 full. Let sit 4 minutes so the coffee grounds can "bloom" in the boiling water.
- Once coffee grounds have soaked, place french press top on top of the pot and very slowly press down on the lever until you reach the bottom of the pot.
- Pour coffee into cups and add half-and-half cream and sweetener if desired. Enjoy immediately!

Good article, I have a French Press, it does take a long time to get a copy of this coffee machine, but I really like the way it was made to produce a cup of delicious coffee.

This looks super delicious and easy to brew, thanks for the recipe. I’ve found that french press is one of the easiest coffee brews to make at home, and not only, I often take the press with me when I am outside (with hot water in a thermos if I don’t have a chance to boil it myself on the spot).
