Oven baked to crispy perfection and tossed in a sweet and spicy orange hot honey sauce, these hot honey chicken wings are the ultimate game day appetizer!

It’s not the Superbowl if there’s not wings on the table! And these orange hot honey ones bring the party, you can be sure of that.
We’ve got a base of super crispy oven-baked wings tossed in a simple fresh orange hot honey sauce, but the flavors are anything but basic. The fresh orange pairs SO well with buttery hot honey and transforms these wings into total flavor bombs.
I mean…your app table is pretty much incomplete without these wings on it.

These wings are so simple you could almost make them in your sleep. The wings bake up in less than an hour in the oven, leaving you plenty of time to whip up the quick hot honey sauce while they bake.
Pro tip: you may want to grab enough ingredients for a double batch. These go FAST.

Choosing Your Wings
For extra ease, I recommend buying chicken wings that are pre-butchered. What this means is that the wings are split at the joint with the tips removed. No cutting necessary, they’re ready to cook from the package.
If you have experience cutting your own wings, feel free to buy them whole and butcher them yourself!

Tips for Perfect Wings
- Pat wings dry – use paper towels to pat chicken wings dry to remove excess moisture.
- Use baking powder in dry rub – baking powder will help crisp up the exterior of the wings.
- Bake wings at high temperature – baking the wings at 450F will turn them a perfect golden brown on the outside.
- Flip wings halfway through baking – this will help both sides crisp up evenly.
- Toss wings in sauce after baking – place the hot wings in a large bowl and toss with sauce until evenly coated. If you have any leftover sauce, use it for dipping!
Recipe Variations
Try these ideas for a different twist on these wings.
- Adjust heat level – start with 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes and use 1 tablespoon hot sauce for a more mild flavor.
- Use a different citrus – try lime or lemon in place of the orange.
Reheating Instructions
Reheat wings in a single layer at 400F 10-15 minutes until wings are crispy. Alternatively, you can air fry wings at 375F 8-10 minutes.

The flavors in these chicken wings are unlike anything you’ll find at your standard wings place! The fresh orange + hot honey butter sauce coats every inch of the crispy wings and a handful of green onions finishes them off perfectly.

Ingredients
- Nonstick cooking spray
- 1-1/2 lbs bone-in chicken wings
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked or regular paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup freshly-squeezed orange juice
- 2 teaspoons grated orange zest
- 2-3 tablespoons hot sauce
- 1/2-1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Sliced green onions for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450F and line a large sheet pan with tin foil. Spray tin foil well with nonstick spray.
- Pat chicken wings dry with paper towels and place in a large bowl. Add baking powder, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder and toss until wings are evenly coated.
- Arrange chicken wings on prepared pan and lightly spray with nonstick spray. Bake chicken wings at 450F 20 minutes then flip wings to opposite side. Continue baking wings an additional 25-30 minutes until a deep golden brown and crispy. Set aside for a moment.
- In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, melt butter then whisk in honey, orange juice, zest, hot sauce, and red pepper flakes and bring to a low simmer. Remove hot honey from heat and season with salt to taste. Keep warm until ready to use (if hot honey solidifies, bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat or microwave 15 seconds to return to liquid form).
- Place hot chicken wings in a large bowl and pour hot honey over top. Toss to evenly coat in sauce. Place chicken wings on a serving plate, garnish with green onions, and serve immediately. Enjoy!
