This easy strawberry sauce is the perfect way to use up an overabundance of fresh summer strawberries. Perfectly sweet and tangy, you’ll want to pour this sauce over everything!
Any recipe that calls for 3 ingredients or less almost always grabs my attention.
I’m a lazy cook. There, my secret’s out. π
Seriously, tho guys. Summers are so crazy around here, I’m always on the look-out for easy, no-stress recipes that call for few ingredients and even less time to make it.
This basic strawberry sauce has been a family-favorite recipe for years now. My mom’s been making it every summer since before I can remember.
She would always go out to the strawberry farm, buy a TON of fresh strawberries, and then come home and whip up batch after batch of this amazing strawberry sauce.
I couldn’t even TELL you how many things I’ve used this strawberry sauce on: Waffles, pancakes, ice cream, pound cake, biscuits, cheesecake….even by the spoonful. That good, you guys.
When I was a kid, in the summertime I would always look forward to Wednesdays because we always had waffles every Wednesday morning. And I knew that, without a doubt there would always be tons of this strawberry sauce, and piles of whipped cream sitting atop my morning waffles.
Best. Breakfast. Ever.
This strawberry sauce is the perfect way to use up any extra strawberries you might have on hand. You can also easily double or even triple it for larger batches.
Ingredients include: Fresh strawberries, sweetener, and lemon juice. —There’s water too, but water TECHNICALLY isn’t an ingredient, so let’s just go with that.
Then, you’ll just combine ’em all in a saucepan, bring it to a boil, then simmer until the berries are soft and the sauce is slightly reduced and thickened.
The sauce will be a bit more on the juicy/runny side, but this is ok—the strawberry juice is just amazing!
My amazing grandma, who knows my huge love for strawberries recently brought over TWELVE QUARTS of locally-grown fresh strawberries for me.
I was pretty much speechless with joy. Mostly because my mouth was full of strawberries. π
Obviously, the first thing I had to make was this strawberry sauce. It had been wayyyy too long since I’d had it. π
I’ve insanely been working my way through them, but I’m still on the lookout for ANY recipe starring this gorgeous berry. Any recipe requests?? I’ve got enough strawberries to feed an army. Y’all are welcome to come over and help me out. π
That is, if I don’t eat them all plain first.
Try this strawberry sauce this summer while strawberries are still at their peak. It’s amazing over just about anything! Promise.

What a fun Wednesday tradition! The waffles are really calling my name … but so is the spoon. Strawberries are my favorite summer fruit and this is a great way to make them last! Er, well, they probably would be gone faster since you just get yourself a bowl and spoon … π Pinning! Happy weekend Sarah!

This looks amazing Sarah! I absolutely adore strawberries, so I am all over this recipe! Pinned!
Thanks for the pin, Kristi!
wow this is so simple yet so delicious! love how relatively guilt free this is too in comparison to other strawberry jam spreads.. love it!
Thanks so much, Thaila! I never really understood why other fruit jams and sauces call for so much sugar and yucky stuff—you really don’t need it since the fruit itself is naturally sweet! π
Love the sound of your Wednesdays since I am a big fan of waffles. And topped with this awesome strawberry sauce and whipped cream? I’d say that sounds like the best breakfast to me:)
It’s still one of my fav breakfasts of all time, Kelly! π

Sara can these be sealed to save for winter?
Yes! You can use any canning tutorial you’ve got to store this sauce.
OMG! Is it bad that I would just eat this out of the jar – no food neeed! lol!

Oh, I TOTALLY eat this sauce from the jar with a spoon, Karen. Just too too good! π
This sounds soooo good. Is this a recipe that you can?? I would be interested in knowing how long you waterbath it, if it’s “can-able.” I’ve never used xylitol, can you can with that?
You could definitely can this sauce, Terri. — I myself do not know how to can it, but I would recommend checking how this informative article from Baked By Rachel for step-by-step instructions. http://www.bakedbyrachel.com/strawberry-sauce-recipe-with-canning-instructions/ Also, you could use xylitol if you were going to can this sauce, but white sugar would be a fine substitute too. Hope this helps! π
Is it possible to can or freeze this recipe? We don’t often get strawberries here (we live in the Arctic), so I would love to do up a huge batch to be used over the year.
Hi Chris! I’ve never frozen or canned this sauce before, but I would imagine that you could do both. Hope this helps!
do you think I could can this once made? That way it has some shelf life? I love love love strawberries and can’t get them year round in MN unless I pay an arm and a leg π
Does this recipe also work with sliced and frozen strawberries?
I think you could definitely can this strawberry sauce, however I’ve never tried it myself so I’m unsure of exactly how you would. And yes, this recipe could also work with frozen strawberries as long as they’re thawed.
It looks amazing, I wonder if it can be dne with icing sugar.
Have you tried it on top of a warm brie with some nuts and basil leaves?
I’ve never tried this recipe with icing sugar before. I would recommend using regular sugar if that’s possible! And oh my gosh, that sounds like an AMAZING brie combo! I must try that next time!
Could you can these in water bath to preserve longer than 5 days?
I’ve never canned these strawberries myself, but I would imagine you could! π
This looks so yummy
At the end you say pour into a jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days….does that mean itβs only good for 5 days for that I have to wait 5 days to use it?? Thank you.
It’s only good for 5 days! π
Can this sauce be frozen?
Yes, this sauce can be frozen up to 2 months.
